Boris Johnson, Olaf Scholz agree dialogue with Russia necessary
Johnson and Scholz want to send a clear and consistent message to Russia regarding the alleged plans to "invade" Ukraine and continue to work on a comprehensive package of sanctions.
As per Downing Street, Boris Johnson, UK's Prime Minister, and Olaf Scholz, the German Chancellor, discussed over the phone, on Friday, the situation in Ukraine and agreed that a dialogue with Russia is necessary.
"The leaders agreed on the importance of dialogue with Russia. They resolved to use all diplomatic channels available to bring an end to the current tensions," a spokesperson from Downing Street said in a statement.
Johnson and Scholz added that it is necessary to send a "clear and consistent message to Russia, including on the repercussions of a further Russian invasion of Ukraine."
The spokesperson added that "they agreed to continue working together and with other international partners on a comprehensive package of sanctions." The Prime Minister stressed that those sanctions should be ready to come into force immediately in the event of further Russian incursion into Ukraine, as claimed by the PM.
The West insists on Russia's potential attack
Russian Ambassador to the UK Andrei Kelin told Sputnik that Russia will retaliate in the event of the introduction of new sanctions by London.
The West continues to wave the sanctions flag in the face of Russia again after accusing it of destabilizing the situation in Ukraine and planning to invade its western neighbor.
Moscow repeatedly dismissed these allegations, insisting that it has no intention of attacking any country.
Unexpectedly, the UK government - though in a state of near-paralysis by Boris Johnson's plight - has recently announced a broadening of its sanctions against Russia.
Late last month, UK Foreign Secretary Liz Truss announced that the government is working on a draft law that will allow sanctions to be imposed on any Russian individuals and businesses.
