Cairo meeting concludes with agreement on Gaza ceasefire monitoring
Representatives from Egypt, Palestine, Qatar, the United States, and "Israel" have agreed to form an operational headquarters in Cairo to coordinate and monitor compliance with the recently brokered Gaza ceasefire agreement.
Representatives from Egypt, Palestine, Qatar, the United States, and "Israel" have agreed to establish an operational headquarters in Cairo to oversee and monitor compliance with the recently brokered ceasefire agreement in Gaza, according to Al Qahera News channel, citing an Egyptian source.
"The meeting in Cairo has ended to discuss the mechanisms for implementing the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip. An agreement has been reached on all necessary measures to implement the agreement, including the formation of an operational headquarters in Cairo to monitor the implementation of measures," the source stated.
The operational headquarters will coordinate the enforcement of the agreement's terms and include representatives from all five parties. Its primary role will be to ensure compliance with the points outlined in the ceasefire, according to the broadcaster.
Ceasefire Preparations
Earlier today, a source within the Palestinian resistance revealed to Al Mayadeen that preparations in Cairo are in full swing "to begin implementing the ceasefire agreement."
According to the source, the preparations focus on prisoner exchanges, humanitarian relief efforts, and field monitoring for any ceasefire violations. These activities will take place with the presence of Egyptian, Qatari, American, Israeli, and Hamas representatives.
The source added that the Rafah crossing is currently undergoing rehabilitation, and following the release of Israeli female soldiers after 14 days, the crossing will be reopened under arrangements led by the Egyptian side in coordination with Palestinian authorities.
Priority will be given to the wounded, the sick, and humanitarian cases, alongside the facilitation of aid entry, coordinated with Egyptian authorities.
Ongoing Violence
Despite the announcement of the ceasefire, violence in Gaza has not ceased. Over the past 24 hours, the Israeli occupation has committed four massacres, killing 88 Palestinians and injuring 189 more, according to local reports.
Many victims were transported to Gaza's few partially functioning hospitals, but rescue operations remain near impossible for those trapped under rubble.
This latest wave of violence has raised the death toll since October 7, 2023, to 46,876 Palestinians killed and 110,642 injured.
