A 20-year-old Palestinian prisoner is between life and death in Israeli occupation prisons after cancer has spread throughout his body and was determined to be in advanced stages, while the occupation is refusing to release him to receive proper treatment.

Asif Al-Rifai, from Kafr 'Ein northwest of Ramallah, was diagnosed with cancer when he was just 16, and despite his critical health condition, Israelis arrested him in September of 2022 after raiding his home and denied him treatment for several months, only recently giving him access to chemotherapy.

The Palestinian Prisoners Information Office said the young prisoner suffers from cancer in his stomach and liver, and it has now metastasized to other organs of his body. The Office also voiced warnings issued by doctors regarding his critical health condition.

Medical examinations confirmed that, in addition to the current organs, cancer has infected his colon, parts of his intestine, and glands as well.

Al-Rifai is a former prisoner who was arrested as a child, and this is his fourth arrest.

Over 600 sick Palestinians are currently held in Israeli prisons, including about 200 prisoners who suffer from chronic diseases, and 24 prisoners and detainees of whom suffer from cancer and tumors of varying degrees.

Today, the case of the prisoner, Asif Al-Rifai, is considered the most difficult and severe.
