China condemns Pentagon for its report, saying it "ignores facts"
China condemned the Pentagon for a report published by the DoD (Pentagon) on Wednesday, discussing China's expansion of its nuclear arsenal.
Beijing's Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Wang Wenbin said that “the report released by the US Department of Defense, like previous similar reports, ignores facts and is full of prejudice,” accusing the US of overhyping the threat.
The Pentagon noted that China is working on upgrading its army to confront the United States in the Indo-Pacific and facilitate unification with Taiwan, which it considers to be part of its territory.
The report
The Pentagon released a report on Wednesday that warned of China building up its nuclear power faster than US officials predicted a year ago, highlighting Beijing's military efforts to match or surpass US global power by 2050.
Interestingly, the report did not mention how many warheads China holds today. A year ago, the Pentagon claimed the number was in the "low 200s", and was likely to double by the end of the decade.
Despite this wave of escalations, US President Joe Biden had said earlier that he is not worried about the possibility of an armed conflict with China.
