Fu Cong, China's representative to the UN, stated that "Israel's" actions pose a threat to world peace, stressing that China strongly condemns such behavior.
Speaking before the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva on Friday, Fu Cong further stressed that the international community must agree on an immediate ceasefire to prevent further escalation, warning that no one knows how far the conflict could spiral if left unchecked.
Fu Cong also warned that attacks on nuclear sites present an intolerable danger, calling for such actions to be unequivocally prohibited, while urging major powers to prioritize calming tensions over exacerbating them.
He further insisted that "A Middle East peace plan must be advanced in cooperation with regional nations," stressing that "indiscriminate force is unacceptable, and the safety of civilians must be guaranteed at all times."
China's representative stated that the country stands "ready to help restore peace to the Middle East," adding that Beijing views positively and supports the continuing discussions taking place with Iran in Geneva, as part of its commitment to fostering regional stability through diplomatic engagement.
Previously, the Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed a strong condemnation of the illegal Israeli aggressions waged on Iran, describing it as a blatant violation of the United Nations Charter and international law, and emphasizing that "Israel's" actions are a grave transgression on Iran's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
During the call, Wang made it clear that there’s no question about what started the current tensions and how they’ve grown, pointing out that "Israel’s" actions break international law and ignore basic rules of international relations.
Wang pointed out that the conflict had weakened the already delicate advancements in the indirect negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program.
China slams Trump on his Iran stance
Beijing issued a strong condemnation of US President Donald Trump on June 17, accusing him of escalating "Israel's" conflict with Iran and exacerbating tensions by "pouring oil" on an already highly volatile situation.
The criticism came in response to Trump's controversial social media post, which had drawn widespread condemnation for telling Tehran residents to "immediately evacuate", an alarming statement that intensified international fears about potential additional Israeli attacks targeting Iranian civilian areas and critical infrastructure.
In response to Trump's comments, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun stated that actions such as fanning the flames, pouring oil on the fire, issuing threats, and applying pressure would not contribute to easing tensions but would instead serve to escalate and expand the conflict further.
