China has submitted a representation to the US after five Chinese businesses were banned for alleged military support to Russia, according to Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Zhao Lijian on Wednesday.
US President Joe Biden's administration announced Tuesday that it has added 36 companies to a trade blacklist, claiming that some of the targetted Chinese firms provided support to Russia’s military and defense industrial base, following the war in Ukraine.
According to the Federal Registry entry, the targets also include companies from Russia, the UAE, Lithuania, Pakistan, Singapore, the UK, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam.
In a briefing, Zhao stated that "China has always objected this and has already made a strong representation to the US."
Beijing believes that Washington is using the claimed Russian military cooperation to exert pressure on Chinese enterprises.
According to the spokesperson, "These actions are not based on international law, they are not approved by the UN Security Council and represent unilateral sanctions and exterritorial jurisdiction from the US' side."
The US banned Connec Electronic Ltd., King Pai Technology Co., Ltd., Sinno Electronics Co., Ltd., Winninc Electronics, World Jetta (H.K.) Logistics Limited, and Promcomplektlogistic Private Company for allegedly supporting Russia's military or defense industrial base.
