China ready to facilitate reconciliation talks between Hamas, Fatah
Sources previously disclosed to Al Mayadeen earlier this month that China was making preparations to host reconciliation talks between Hamas and Fatah.
China is ready to assist rival Palestinian factions in their reconciliation efforts by providing a platform for dialogue, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman stated on Tuesday.
"China always supports Palestinian factions in achieving reconciliation and solidarity through dialogue and consultation and stands ready to provide platforms and opportunities for all Palestinian factions to carry out dialogue for reconciliation," Lin Jian told a news briefing.
He was responding to a question about China's reported plans to host talks between Gaza-based Hamas and Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah party from July 20-21. According to The New York Times, Palestinian officials said Beijing plans to bring together the leaders of Hamas and Fatah to help resolve their dispute.
The Foreign Ministry spokesperson stated that Beijing aims to improve communication and coordination with the Palestinian factions but declined to provide specifics, noting that more information would be shared "when appropriate."

In May, the PA's leader Mahmoud Abbas issued controversial remarks, blaming the October 7 operation for providing "Israel" with an excuse to launch a genocide against the already besieged strip. He accused Hamas of providing "Israel" with pretexts to wage a war in Gaza.
Hamas later expressed regret over his statements and called on all "brotherly Arab states to take the necessary measures to compel the (Israeli) occupation to stop its aggression."
It is worth noting that prior to the start of the war, Abbas reportedly agreed to Saudi Arabia normalizing diplomatic relations with "Israel."
This agreement was initially meant to occur without the recognition of Palestinian statehood, but now Saudi Arabia has imposed conditions on normalizing relations with "Israel" including the establishment of Palestinian sovereignty.
Hamas was founded in 1987 by Sunni religious leader Sheikh Ahmed Yassin. From the very beginning, it refused to recognize "Israel" and vowed to fight against it.
Following its victory in the 2006 Palestinian parliamentary elections, Hamas established control over the Gaza Strip, leading to deep divisions with the Fatah movement.
