China urges NATO to give up attempts at destabilizing Asia: Official
As media reports say that NATO is set to label China a “systemic challenge” when it outlines its new policy guidelines this week, China urges the alliance to stop trying to destabilize Asia.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian commented on Bloomberg's report by saying the Chinese government urges NATO to stop trying to destabilize Asia in the wake of the crisis in Europe.
It is worth noting that Bloomberg reported earlier that NATO is expected to label China a "systemic challenge," while also highlighting Beijing's growing partnership with Russia.
On his account, Zhao told reporters Tuesday, "What NATO needs to do is to abandon the Cold War mindset, zero-sum games, and the practice of creating enemy images. After the turmoil in Europe, NATO countries should abandon their attempts to destabilize Asia and the world."
"China pursues an independent and peaceful foreign policy. It does not interfere in the internal affairs of other states. Nor does it export its ideology or use extraterritorial jurisdiction, economic blackmail, or unilateral sanctions. How can China be a systematic challenge?" Zhao stressed.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson hailed China's development as “an opportunity for the world, not a challenge to anyone”.
“We strongly urge NATO to immediately stop spreading false information about China and refrain from provocative statements," he concluded.
The NATO summit of heads of state and government will be held in Madrid from June 28 to 30. Participants at the summit will reportedly adopt a new strategic concept, and consider ways to strengthen the alliance not to mention addressing the repercussions of global climate change for security.
Last April, the foreign ministers of the G7 countries voiced their support for more wide-scope efforts involving China in active dialogues over arms control to promote nuclear disarmament.
