China warns US against fueling separatist notions in Taiwan
China has once again warned against US intervention in Taiwanese-Chinese affairs, emphasizing the necessity to avoid any signals that give separatists the wrong impression.
China has once again warned against US intervention in Taiwanese-Chinese affairs, emphasizing the necessity to avoid any false signals that give separatists the wrong impression.
During a regular press conference on Wednesday, Mao Ning, China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson, said the US “needs to earnestly abide by the one-China principle and stipulations of the three China-US joint communiqués, prudently and properly handle Taiwan-related issues, and stop official contact with the Taiwan region.”
She then reiterated China's cemented stance against US intervention in Taiwanese elections, saying it sends separatists and independent forces the wrong message, as “there is only one China in the world. Taiwan is an inalienable part of China," adding that China firmly "opposes the US having any form of official contact with the Taiwan region."
Addressing Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) emerging alliance with US forces, Ning said attempts at "Taiwan's independence" will not succeed.
It is noteworthy that Washington had made commitments to China against advocating for "Taiwan's independence" during the US-China top-level summit in San Francisco in November, but it still meddles in Taiwanese affairs to provoke China.

Lai Ching-te: An extreme danger to Taiwan's reunification
This comes a few days before Taiwan's presidential elections. China has long warned against any foreign intervention in matters that are solely Chinese.
China especially warned against Taiwan's top presidential candidate, Lai Ching-te, who had shared separatist notions and is expected to further promote the ideology if elected.
As elections near, Chen Binhua, a spokesman for China's Taiwan Affairs Office under the State Council, hoped that the Taiwanese "make the right choice" when electing their new president, saying, "I sincerely hope the majority of Taiwan compatriots recognize the extreme harm of the DPP's 'Taiwan independence' line and the extreme danger of Lai Ching-te's triggering of cross-Strait confrontation and conflict, and to make the right choice at the crossroads of cross-Strait relations."
Lai, in a previous televised debate session discussing the upcoming presidential elections, appeared to have uncovered his intentions of maintaining Taiwan's independence, and to be a "destroyer of peace across the Taiwan Strait," Chen Binhua said.
