China will continue efforts to resolve the Ukraine crisis: MoFA
China reiterates its plans to continue efforts to promote a political solution to the Ukrainian crisis.
China will work with the international community to promote a political solution to the Ukrainian crisis, the Chinese Foreign Ministry told Sputnik on Monday.
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian said, "China’s position on the Ukraine issue is consistent and clear. China did not take part in the peace summit and will not comment on its joint communiqué."
On Friday, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia would immediately cease fire and begin negotiations with Ukraine after Kiev withdraws troops from Russian territory and officially abandons plans to join NATO.
"We have taken note of the relevant statements. China has always maintained an objective and fair position on the Ukrainian issue and has actively promoted peace talks. China will continue to work with the international community, making relentless efforts to promote a political solution to the Ukrainian crisis," the ministry said when asked to comment on Putin’s terms for a ceasefire.
The ministry further stated that China is prepared to work with Russia and the international community to implement collective and sustainable security.
Late last month, China decided not to attend the Ukraine peace conference hosted by Switzerland this month.
China reportedly declined the invitation to the Ukraine peace conference conference, as its conditions for participation were not met, including the participation of both Russia and Ukraine.
The Swiss government, which has supposedly always taken a neutral stance on conflicts, has made its position on the Ukrainian crisis explicitly clear by not extending an invitation to the conference to Moscow.
The summit was held between June 15 and 16.
