US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen expressed concern on Thursday over China's intentions to end the war in Ukraine due to its 'no-limits' ties with Russia - calling it a "worrisome sign".

"China's 'no limits' partnership and support for Russia is a worrisome indication that it is not serious about ending the war," Yellen stated, stressing that not providing Russia with any type of support or evading sanctions is crucial, as is enforcing consequences for committing violations.

The secretary added that the US would demonstrate its "extremely clear" stance to China and firms within its jurisdiction.

This comes a mere four days after Yellen said that the US economic sanctions imposed on Russia and other nations have put the dollar's hegemony at risk as targeted countries seek out an alternative, adding that these sanctions definitely "create a desire on the part of China, of Russia, of Iran to find an alternative."

Back in February, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said in a statement that China would never accept that US "finger-pointing" target China-Russia relations and called on Washington to work toward a political settlement of the Ukraine crisis instead of deteriorating the situation.

The United States, as a significant power, should "work for a political settlement of the [Ukraine] crisis instead of fanning the flames or profiteering from the situation", the statement read.

In a meeting last month between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese Defense Minister Li Shangfu, Li said: "Cooperation between Russia and China in military and technical areas has been developing very well recently. It makes a great contribution to security, [both] global and regional."

He added that "We are standing shoulder to shoulder and working to improve the well-being of our peoples. Considering that economic recovery is very slow, and the world is very turbulent, there is a great need for peace, peaceful relations between countries."
