Congressman blames mass shootings on "these dang smartphones"
The Congressman made the comments following the emotional testimonies of gun violence survivors and their families.
Congressman Pat Fallon (R-Texas) proposed Wednesday a cause of gun violence that doesn't involve guns.
During a House Committee hearing, Fallon rejected a call for new gun regulations, suggesting guns were present before mass shootings became commonplace in the US.
"The truth is that guns have always been readily available in this country," Fallon said. "But mass shootings and in particular mass shootings of schools are nonexistent or at least extremely rare until they became a grisly recent phenomenon. So what's changed in the last 50 years?"

Fallon blamed the US' epidemic of mass shootings on the "noticeable breakdown of the family," the "erosion of faith", and the "overuse of these dang smartphones."
