Cuba, Nicaragua, and Venezuela slam US over blockade
At the 39th Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua denounce the US-imposed sanctions and arbitrary blockades against them.
Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua collectively denounced on Wednesday, during the 39th session of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) in Argentina, the US-imposed "arbitrary and illegal" blockades, sanctions and measures against their nations.
They slammed the US for tightening its sanctions against their people during the Covid-19 pandemic, which i turn resulted in higher death rates as sanctions hindered all efforts to "save lives."
Venezuelan Foreign Minister Carlos Farias denounced the "terrible consequences generated by unilateral coercive measures against our countries."
Furthermore, he criticized the fact that the "disastrous unilateral coercive measures" against his country during the pandemic prevented his country from reaching accessible medical supplies.
In his speech, Nicaragua's Foreign Minister, Denis Moncada, stated that his country "has historically resisted imperial aggressions which are manifested in the so-called sanctions that are illegal, arbitrary, unilateral and that, as happens with other brother countries, have the objective of stifling us economically."
Similarly, Cuban Minister of Foreign Trade Rodrigo Malmierca Diaz also condemned the "unilateral coercive measures of some states that violate the sovereignty of other countries," adding
We specifically demand the cessation of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the government of the United States against our country for more than 60 years, in flagrant violation of international law and the United Nations Charter."
