Designation of Ansar Allah undermines US credibility worldwide: Sanaa
Sanaa affirms that the US designation of the Yemeni Ansar Allah movement as a "Specially Designated Global Terrorist" is an illegitimate and unlawful decision.
The Yemeni Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Sanaa government condemned the United States' practice of "double standards" after designating the Ansar Allah movement as a so-called "Specially Designated Global Terrorist."
In a statement, the Ministry affirmed that the illegitimate and unlawful American action in designating the movement "undermines Washington's credibility with most countries worldwide."
It affirmed that "Washington is the side practicing terrorism against many countries, with the latest being supporting the terrorism carried out by the Zionist entity against Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip, resulting in more than 28,000 martyrs and 68,000 wounded to date."
The statement pointed out that the Israeli occupation entity "enjoys unlimited political, military, financial, and logistical support from the United States and its allies."
The Ministry reiterated Sanaa's steadfast and continuous ethical and humanitarian stance in continuing to impose a naval blockade on the occupation entity and targeting Israeli or Israeli-bound ships heading to the occupied Palestinian ports until the swift entry of needed humanitarian aid, food, medicine, and fuel into Gaza and the end of the ongoing Israeli aggression on the Strip.
It also emphasized the continuation of targeting US and British ships until the end of the two countries' military aggression on Yemen.
This comes as the US Treasury Department announced Friday that its decision to return the Yemeni movement to the so-called "list of terrorist groups" has come into effect. On January 17, the United States officially designated Ansar Allah as a "Specially Designated Global Terrorist" group, citing attacks on naval vessels in the Red Sea, as a driver of the decision.
In response, the Ansar Allah spokesperson Mohammad Abdulsalam considered in a statement that Washington's decision reflects "blatant hypocrisy", accusing the US of sponsoring terrorism by supporting the Israeli occupation entity.
Abdulsalam pointed out that with its decision, the United States aims to "harm Yemen in support of Israel" and encourage it to continue its genocidal war against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.
