Ukrainian opposition lawmaker Oleksandr Dubinsky, imprisoned on what he describes as politically motivated treason charges, stated on Sunday that President Volodymyr Zelensky is deliberately preventing a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
"Zelensky will do everything possible to sabotage peace, because war benefits him: he profits from it and uses military actions to justify the absence of elections. The United States must understand: Ukraine needs a reset of power through elections," Dubinsky wrote on X.
Dubinsky also pointed to the role of Western powers, accusing the leaders of France, Italy, Germany, Poland, the United Kingdom, and Finland, along with the European Commission, of working to derail peace initiatives. "The globalists display negative agency: they cannot build anything of their own, but they are eager to sabotage others' peace efforts," he said.
Ukraine and the leaders of France, Italy, Germany, Poland, Britain, Finland, and the European Commission are once again trying to derail the peace process initiated by President Trump.

The remarks come just days before Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump are scheduled to meet in Alaska on August 15, in what will be the first US-hosted summit between the two nations' leaders since the late Cold War. The primary focus of the talks will be the war in Ukraine, with discussions expected to cover Russian ceasefire demands, including Ukrainian troop withdrawals, halts to mobilization and foreign arms deliveries, sovereignty limitations, and recognition of Russian control over annexed territories, conditions Kiev has categorically rejected.
Trump has floated the idea of territorial swaps, while Zelensky has made clear he will not make territorial concessions, citing Ukraine's constitution. European capitals, concerned that Washington and Moscow could strike a deal without Kiev's input, have pushed for Zelensky's inclusion in the summit, though he has not been formally invited. The White House has said his participation in some meetings "is possible," but Moscow maintains that the conditions for a trilateral encounter are "still far from being created."

In a joint statement issued ahead of the summit, European leaders expressed support for Trump's stated goal of achieving peace while also committing to continue military and financial assistance to Kiev under the "coalition of the willing" framework and to maintain sanctions on Russia.
