Detainee Nael Al-Barghouti's wife to file claim in ICC
Iman Nafih confirms to Al Mayadeen her intention to file a claim against the IOF in the International Criminal Court.
The wife of detainee Nael Al-Barghouti, Iman Nafih, told Al Mayadeen that occupation soldiers stormed her house, at dawn today, searched, and vandalized it. She also related how IOF troops stole her car and her salary, which is a small amount for household expenses, in addition to a sum of money from Murad Al-Barghouti’s house, and the car of detainee Rabih Al-Barghouti's wife.
She confirmed that she is going to "follow up the matter by filing a claim against the occupation soldiers in the International Criminal Court after preparing documented evidence."
Who is Nael Al-Barghouti?
Nael Al-Barghouti was detained by the occupation for the first time in April 1978, at the age of 19, when he was still in high school, and he was sentenced, along with his older brother Omar and his cousin Fakhri (who was released as part of the "Shalit deal"), to life imprisonment.
In October 2011, Nael Al-Barghouti was released, as part of the “Shalit deal", which included the release of more than 1,000 Palestinian detainees, in exchange for Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit, only to be re-arrested in 2014, along with dozens of those freed in the same deal, and returned. It is important to note that the occupation sentenced Nael to life imprisonment again.
In late 2018, the IOF killed his nephew, Saleh Al-Barghouthi, arrested Assem, Saleh's brother, arrested their father, Omar Al-Barghouti, and members of his family, and demolished two family homes. The family has been subjected to acts of abuse by the occupation, and the majority of his family has been detained dozens of times.
ICC investigations
Five nations previously called on the International Criminal Court to launch an investigation into "Israel's" indiscriminate war and genocide on Gaza and "the situation in the state of Palestine."
As confirmed by ICC chief prosecutor Karim Khan, the nations are South Africa, Bangladesh, Bolivia, Comoros, and Djibouti, which are all ICC members. In a statement, Khan said an investigation into Gaza and the occupied West Bank has already started in March 2021 and now "extends to the escalation of hostilities and violence since the attacks that took place on October 2023."
Colombian President Gustavo Petro said on November 16, 2023, that Bogota will support Algeria's case at the International Criminal Court (ICC) over war crimes committed by "Israel", led by the Israeli occupation of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in the ongoing bombardment and ground invasion of the Gaza Strip.
Turkey has also filed a case against Netanyahu with the ICC, accusing him of committing genocide against the Palestinians.
