Diplomatic source denies cancelation of Leb. delegation visit to Syria
A Syrian diplomatic source denies reports saying that Damascus has canceled the date of a Lebanese delegation's visit to discuss the demarcation of the maritime borders.
A Syrian diplomatic source denied to Al Mayadeen reports saying that Damascus had canceled the date of a Lebanese delegation's visit to discuss the demarcation of the maritime borders.
This comes after news reports informed that Damascus had apologized for receiving the Lebanese delegation due to prior commitments.
"The Lebanese side suggested a date that was not suitable for the Syrian side, but there was no cancelation" of the visit, the source confirmed, adding that there was no agreement on a meeting in the first place to be canceled.
Earlier, Lebanese President Michel Aoun and his Syrian counterpart Bashar Al-Assad discussed the delineation of the two countries' shared maritime border. Al-Assad suggested holding direct talks through the two countries' foreign ministries to discuss the border delineation file.
Accordingly, Deputy Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament Elias Bou Saab has been tasked by President Aoun with leading a delegation that will head to Syria on October 26 to discuss the demarcation of the maritime border between the two countries, Lebanon's presidential office said on Monday.
This comes in light of the US mediator Amos Hochstein's announcement that the signing of the agreement between Lebanon and "Israel" regarding the maritime borders will take place on Thursday in the Lebanese town of Naqoura, with delegations from "Israel" and Lebanon.
Lebanese President Michel Aoun announced, on October 13, Lebanon's agreement to adopt the final version of the maritime border demarcation agreement, stressing that it "responds to Lebanon's demands and preserves its rights in full," and that, "Lebanon did not concede not even a kilometer to 'Israel', as we obtained the entire Qana field, and refused to recognize the Israeli buoys' line."
