DPRK trash balloon lands in government complex in Seoul
This is the second time DPRK's trash balloons have landed in South Korea's government complex.
A trash-carrying balloon launched from the DPRK landed in the Seoul government complex's parking lot on Friday, South Korean authorities reported.
The balloon was found near the compound's main entrance, prompting a significant emergency response with firefighters and police sealing the area.
The inflatable was safely removed and probed by the military for hazardous material, finding that the balloon contained various household garbage, such as a green piece of plastic showing an address in Pyongyang, Yonhap news agency reported.
The balloon is suspected to have come from the most recent batch of trash balloons launched from Pyongyang into Seoul on Wednesday. The batch mainly consisted of paper and plastic waste with no hazardous materials found.
DPRK garbage balloons land at S. Korea's presidential compound
This is the second time a garbage-filled balloon has landed in the government complex.
The first incident took place in July when a balloon landed in the South Korean president's compound in downtown Seoul, the Yonhap news agency reported, despite the area's no-fly zone and military protection.
Although there were no reported damages, the chemical response team was dispatched, according to AFP.
“The chemical, biological, and radiological [warfare] response team has safely collected the trash balloons,” the presidential security service told the French news agency, confirming the results from the investigation revealing a lack of danger and contamination.
