Drones strike targets Tigray capital for 2nd day in a row
Mekelle comes under new drone strikes, killing 10 people.
An airstrike targeting a residential neighborhood in Tigray's capital Mekelle resulted in the death of 10 people, a hospital official in Ayder Referral Hospital said.
Fasika Amdeslasie, a surgeon in the hospital, claimed that the attack killing 10 people was carried out with two drones, the first injuring two women followed by the other that struck "the people that gathered to help and see the victims."
"Among the victims, a father was dead and his son is taken to surgery", Fasika Amdeslasie tweeted.
This comes only one day after Tigrayan rebels and hospital officials said that a university campus in Mekelle was targeted by a drone strike.
The new attacks on the region came after Tigrayan rebels (TPLF) announced readiness for African Union-led peace talks with the government of Addis Ababa and offered a conditional truce.
It is noteworthy that Tigray, in northern Ethiopia, is cut off from the rest of the country and without power, telecommunications networks, banking services, or petrol, and that the delivery of humanitarian aid by road and air has also been completely interrupted since the fighting resumed.
