Ennahda protests against dissolution of top judicial body
Ennahda movement calls on its supporters to protest against Tunisian President Kais Saied dissolving the Supreme Judicial Council.
Ennahda movement called on Saturday its supporters to protest on Sunday against Tunisian President Kais Saied's dissolution of the Supreme Judicial Council.
The political party, via a Facebook post, urged its supports and all national political forces to heavily participate in the protest on Sunday, February 13, 2022, in response to a request by another anti-coup political party.
"Citizens Against the Coup" had called for protests on Sunday to "liberate the council from the tyranny of the coup", in protest against Kais Saied's dissolution of the judicial body.
The president said in a video the Supreme Judicial Council "is a thing of the past from this moment", adding that he will issue a temporary decree to the council.
Later on, he announced the Tunisian cabinet would consider the decree related to the dissolution of the Supreme Judicial Council.
The President declared that Tunisia must be "purified," and the only way this could happen was if the judiciary was purified.
After the decision, the Association of Tunisian Judges issued a call to halt all court operations within the country in the next two days.
