Erdogan: UAE Eyes Big Investments in Turkey
Erdogan stated that Turkey and the UAE made progress in their relations, which could lead to notable UAE investment in Turkey.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) would make “serious investments” in Turkey, adding that he and UAE National Security Adviser Sheikh Tahnoun bin Zayed Al Nahyan discussed investment in Turkey.
In a televised interview, Erdogan added that Turkey and the UAE have been in contact in recent months and have made some progress, after talks with senior UAE officials.
The Turkish president also divulged he expects to meet the UAE’s ruler Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, stressing that "the UAE has very serious plans for Turkey."
In response to a question about whether the UAE visit eases tensions between the two countries, Erdogan said, "Such fluctuations can and have occurred between countries, and some similar situations have occurred as well."
"For several months...beginning with our intelligence unit, by holding some talks with the administration of Abu Dhabi, we have arrived at a certain point," Erdogan said.
“I believe that there will be some more talks in the upcoming process,” he said.
“We are in favor of the main actors in the region directly negotiating and solving the problems.”
It is worth mentioning that Turkey threatened to suspend its tied with the UAE, in response to the UAE's normalization deal with “Israel”.
At the time, Erdogan told reporters that the UAE’s controversial deal with “Israel” is problematic and that Turkey stands in solidarity with the Palestinian people.
