Establishment of Palestinian state 'unrealistic today': New Israeli FM
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar denies any discussions on the possibility of establishing a Palestinian state, calling the option "unrealistic".
"Israel's" newly appointed Foreign Minister, Gideon Sa’ar, asserted that the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state "is not a realistic goal at present."
In response to a question about the establishment of a Palestinian state in exchange for normalization of ties between "Israel" and Arab countries, Sa’ar stated, "I don't think this position is realistic today; we must be realistic."
He added, "In a word: no," suggesting that, in his view, any future Palestinian state would effectively become a "Hamas state".
According to AFP, the normalization agreements between "Israel" and Arab nations are expected to be revived following the election of US President-elect Donald Trump last week.
Saudi Arabia has conditioned the establishment of ties with "Israel" on the creation of a Palestinian state with the eastern part of occupied al-Quds as its capital.
Riyadh summit draft
The Extraordinary Arab-Islamic Summit, held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, issued a draft resolution in solidarity with Palestine. The text, obtained by Al Mayadeen on Monday, underscored unwavering support for the Palestinian cause and the defense of Arab-Islamic identity in the region.
The resolution reaffirmed the centrality of the Palestinian issue, asserting the continued backing of Arab and Islamic nations for Palestine's lawful rights.
It emphasized the importance of safeguarding the sanctity of the eastern part of al-Quds, labeling the city a "red line" for the Arab and Islamic world. The draft resolution also strongly rejected Israeli measures aimed at Judaizing the eastern part of al-Quds, describing such actions as an effort to cement the occupation and colonial control over the city.
A key element of the resolution was the assertion of Palestine's full sovereignty over the eastern part of al-Quds, which is recognized as the eternal capital of Palestine. The document further highlighted that the Palestinian cause is inseparable from all other global struggles for freedom, particularly those of people resisting occupation.
'Israel' normalization off table without Palestinian state: Saudi FM
Late last month, Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan said on October 31 that normalization between Saudi Arabia and the Israeli occupation is off the table until the "two-state solution" is achieved and a Palestinian state is established.
During a discussion session at the Future Investment Initiative in Riyadh, the Foreign Minister said, "It is not just the issue of normalization that is at risk now, but the situation in the entire region if we do not find a clear solution and path to establishing a Palestinian state," adding, "We are working to ensure that the Palestinians obtain their legitimate rights and that Palestine becomes a member of the international community."
"I hope the leadership in Israel will see that this is not only the right and just thing to do, but it is also in Israel's security and strategic interest to do so," he added.
Regarding Saudi-Iranian relations, bin Farhan confirmed that bilateral ties were moving in the right direction but remained complicated due to regional conditions.
