Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro announced the discovery of a "fascist cell" in the country, stating that its members had been arrested.
Maduro emphasized that Venezuela would not tolerate any Nazi, Zionist, or fascist tendencies and reaffirmed his commitment to punishing anyone seeking to spread such ideologies.
Venezuela's Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello revealed on Thursday that the Venezuelan far-right opposition was involved in orchestrating Operation Aurora, a plot aimed at attacking military installations in Bolivar state.
Cabello linked the operation to a 2019 assault on a military unit in Bolivar, after which the perpetrators fled to Colombia. He presented a video of a detainee explaining the details of the plan, recounting how the group escaped through the Brazilian jungle before being extracted by a helicopter belonging to the Brazilian Armed Forces.
In a separate development, Maduro stressed that the Constitutional Reform he intends to implement during his third term as leader of the Bolivarian state will be subject to public debate to ensure broad citizen participation and consensus.
Speaking on the latest edition of his program Con Maduro+, the Venezuelan President announced that he would present the draft Constitution to the National Assembly for nationwide debate.
He clarified that the primary objectives of the reform are to expand and refine Venezuelan democracy, build a new and modern society, and establish a clear economic model for future generations.
Maduro further emphasized that the reform aims to make Venezuela self-sufficient, with a diversified and independent economy, resilient to both internal and external threats, including unilateral US sanctions.
“This year we have a challenge for the great constitutional reform that we will discuss and reach consensus on with the Venezuelan people in the territories, in the assemblies, at the grassroots level,” he emphasized.
