First coins featuring King Charles III released
The 50p coin in circulation in post offices around the UK will feature King Charles III for the first time starting on Thursday.
The UK's first coins featuring King Charles III went into circulation on Thursday, as per The Guardian.
The official currency effigy of King Charles III, created by British artist Martin Jennings, was revealed by the Royal Mint in September.
9,452 post office locations will distribute a total of 4.9 million 50-pence coins over the month of December. Clients will receive coins as change when they make purchases, the report added.
The Guardian quoted the director of collector services at the Royal Mint Rebecca Morgan as saying that “the Royal Mint has been trusted to make coins bearing the monarch’s effigy for over 1,100 years and we are proud to continue this tradition into the reign of King Charles III."
It is worth noting that all UK coins featuring the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II will continue to be accepted as legal currency and to be used in commerce.
