Four Peshmerga Fighters Wounded in ISIS Attack
ISIS militants launch an attack on Peshmerga forces in the Diyala Province, and police forces in Erbil kill a person who tried to storm the government's Department of Foreign Relations.
The Ministry of Peshmerga in the Kurdistan Region announced on Saturday that four Peshmerga fighters were wounded in a terrorist attack in the Diyala Province.
The ministry stated that "ISIS terrorists launched an attack on the Peshmerga forces-the Fifth Infantry Brigade in the Koljo district of the Kifri district of Diyala Province, which resulted in the injury of four Peshmerga fighters."
The Iraqi forces had started security operations in northern Iraq, within the governorates of Kirkuk, Diyala, and Salah al-Din, to hunt down the remnants of the ISIS organization.
In a related context, the Erbil Governorate Police Directorate, the capital of the Kurdistan region of Iraq, announced the death of a person who tried to storm the government's Department of Foreign Relations.
The directorate stated in a press statement on Saturday that the incident occurred "when a person tried to storm the Department of Foreign Relations in the regional government and attacked the guards," adding that "the department forces confronted him, resulting in his death."
It pointed out that "the police forces immediately arrived at the scene of the accident and transferred the body of the dead man to the Forensic Medicine Directorate."
In the past few days, the Kurdistan region of Iraq witnessed confrontations between Kurdish security forces and protesting students over the payment of monthly stipends and poor services in university housing buildings.
