Four police officers killed in NW Pakistan terrorist attack
A group of terrorists opened fire on a police station in the Lakki Marwat neighborhood before using an improvised explosive device to target a police van.
Pakistan's Interior Minister reported, on Thursday, that a terrorist attack in the country's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province claimed the lives of at least four police officers, including a senior official.
"Deputy Superintendent of Police Iqbal Mohmand along with three other police personnel have been martyred," said Rana Sanaullah stated.
In further detail, a group of terrorists opened fire on a police station in the Lakki Marwat neighborhood before using an improvised explosive device to target a police van.
According to the local authorities, the attack also injured six police officers.
It is noteworthy that Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) warned in February of additional attacks on law enforcement officers after one of its suicide squads raided a police compound in Karachi, killing four.
Since the hasty US withdrawal from Afghanistan in August 2021, there has been an increase in terrorist attacks in Pakistan.
Pakistan's rocky northwestern region has long been a hotbed of insurgent activity, with successive administrations struggling to establish a writ. Police are also frequent targets of attacks by militants from Pakistan's Taliban, as well as rebels from various Balochistan separatist groups.
