Freedom Tunnel saga: Two years on, the shockwave still reverberating
Two years on and the shockwave of freedom from Gilboa prison still lingers, with the shattered image of Israeli security capabilities not being restored.
The morning of September 6, 2021, was not ordinary. The world woke up to the image of a member of the Israeli occupation forces sitting cross-legged and leaning in front of a wide hole in the ground, wondering whether the matter could be real or just a dream!
"A tunnel to break free from a very tight prison." The six heroes did it, and the aforementioned image conveyed a reality this time and not a Hollywood script or attractive fantasies in electronic games and artificial intelligence software.
Although social networking pages at the time received the image that attracted scores of visitors, the deep shock persisted in reality and went beyond the borders of the image that came out of nowhere.
Two years on and the shockwave of snatching freedom from Gilboa Prison is still lingering: The shattered image of the Israeli security capabilities, which were considered ever awake, has never been restored. The political problems within the occupation entity, which were sparked by the greatest shock of September 6, never subsided.

Frustration did not creep into the souls of the prisoners when their heroic comrades returned to prison. In fact, the rounds of confrontation that the prisoners were undergoing were getting deeper and ever-vibrant. The surprise factor has multiplied and spread since the "wonder tunnel moment," and resistance operations have surged in the West Bank, using unique techniques, including explosive devices that carry new secrets unveiled by blowing up occupation vehicles, which have now become more reluctant to storm Palestinian cities than ever before.
On the second anniversary of Operation Freedom Tunnel, Al Mayadeen TV and Al Mayadeen Net will re-broadcast the documentary series "The Heroes", which accurately documented the event and conveyed the narration of the six heroes, who honored Al Mayadeen by giving the network the privilege of narrating their story.
Al Mayadeen will devote Wednesday, September 6, to commemorate the anniversary through several materials on its websites and platforms that touch on the event and its persistent aftermath.
