The death toll of journalists killed in Gaza has risen to 214 since the war began on October 7, 2023, following the martyrdom of journalist Yahya Subaih in an Israeli airstrike in the al-Rimal neighborhood of western Gaza City.
According to press sources in Gaza, Subaih was killed just hours after the birth of his daughter.
He worked as a reporter and photographer for the local Palestine Post Agency, where he was deeply committed to capturing the hardships of civilians, especially children and displaced families.
Journalist Nour al-Din Abdo killed documenting Gaza attack
On the same day, 24-year-old journalist Nour al-Din Abdo was martyred while documenting an Israeli slaughter at Al-Karama School in Gaza City's al-Tuffah neighborhood. According to Gaza's Health Ministry, the attack killed 17 additional people who had sought refuge in the school.

The Government Media Office in Gaza confirmed the updated figure, noting that Subaih had worked with several media outlets. The office condemned “in the strongest terms the systematic targeting, killing, and assassination of Palestinian journalists by the Israeli occupation."
It called on the Federation of Arab Journalists and international press organizations to denounce what it described as a systematic campaign against Palestinian journalists in the Gaza Strip.
It further held the Israeli occupation, the US administration, and allied countries, such as the UK, Germany, and France, fully responsible for what it called “heinous and brutal crimes” against media professionals.
The media office also called on the international community, international organizations, and journalism and media organizations in all countries of the world to condemn the crimes of the occupation, deter it, prosecute it in international courts for its ongoing crimes, and bring the occupation’s criminals to justice.
The office also called for "effective pressure" to end the genocide and protect journalists and media professionals in Gaza.
