German embassy played a pivotal role in the riots: Fars agency
Sources of the Iranian Fars news agency say that the German embassy played a major role in exerting diplomatic pressure on Iran during the recent riots.
The German embassy played a role in the recent riots in Iran, according to the Iranian Fars news agency.
"The German embassy played a significant and influential role in exercising diplomatic pressure on Iran during the riots in the country," sources told Fars on Wednesday.
"The German embassy in Tehran played a pivotal role in igniting the riots in the country, and embassy officials held meetings with officials of a number of other European embassies to expand the conflict and tension in Iran," the sources added.
"Nationals of 14 countries were arrested during the recent events, including Americans, British, French, and Austrians, as well as people from Russia and Afghanistan."
Earlier this month, the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence announced on September 30 the arrest of more than 250 people in connection to the riots that ensued following the death of Mahsa Amini, including 9 foreigners. It has been reported that "foreign citizens from Germany, Poland, Italy, France, the Netherlands, Sweden, and others were arrested on the scenes and behind the scenes of the riots.".
On October 6, Iranian security released a video containing the confessions of a woman named Cecile Koehler, who, with her partner Jacques Paris, came to cause chaos in the country.
The two spies admitted that they were French intelligence officers. Kohler confessed that she got paid to provoke the riots and that she used the money to cover the costs of demonstrations and strikes.
They also indicated that they needed to gather all tools, including weapons, to carry out operations and confront the police if necessary, with the aim of overthrowing the government.
In the meantime, Paris confirmed that "the French General Directorate for External Security aims to pressure the Iranian government."
A spokesperson for the presidential body of the Iranian Shura Council, Nizameddin Mousavi, had previously explained that "people who were arrested during the riots and have no connection with foreign networks have been released," stressing that the security forces in Iran are carefully monitoring all movements in the country and will not allow breaching security.
For his part, Iranian Minister of Intelligence Ismail Khatib said earlier in the day that "the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, the intelligence and security forces, and the police all insist on responding firmly to the crimes committed by agents and separatists," adding, "Terrorist groups linked to global arrogance should know that their ugly actions will have consequences."
