German MP slams West for using 'Stand with Ukraine' as pretext for war
German lawmaker Sahra Wagenknecht says the Ukraine war is to ensure the expansion of US and NATO influence under the slogan "Solidarity with Ukraine."
German lawmaker Sahra Wagenknecht told reporters on Saturday that western officials are employing Orwellian methods and are using Orwellian methods to convince voters that supplying Kiev with tanks would bring peace to Ukraine and that the purpose of the war is allegedly to defend Western values.
Speaking of Orwellian methods, Wagenknecht referred to UK novelist George Orwell's most well-known work titled "1984," which speaks of totalitarianism and propaganda.
"George Orwell knew that if everybody believed in the lie disseminated, then this lie went down in history and became true. So, we clearly say that we do not believe your lies any longer. We know that weapons kill, and tanks exist to wage war. And we know that our freedom is not protected in Ukraine," Wagenknecht said during the "Peace Rally" held in Berlin to oppose continued support for Ukraine.
The German lawmaker added that the purpose of the war had nothing to do with the defense of western values but to ensure the ongoing expansion of US and NATO influence under the slogan "solidarity with Ukraine."
"This is a lie. Solidarity would be to try to do everything to stop the deaths. Solidarity is about saving lives, not destroying them, about advocating peace, not war. It does not require tanks, it requires diplomacy, negotiations, and willingness to compromise on both sides," Wagenknecht said.

She added that "part of the truth" was the fact that Israeli and Turkish-mediated peace talks in 2022 had failed, noting that Russia was not responsible for these failures. Nonetheless, Wagenknecht urged Russia to signal readiness to re-initiate peace talks.
Thousands rallied on Saturday in Berlin to protest Germany's continued support of Kiev. The "Peace Rally" was organized by the Die Linke party, of which Wagenknecht is a prominent member. The rally reportedly gathered more than 50,000 people.
The demands of the left-leading party included demanding Chancellor Olaf Scholz to "stop the escalation of weapons deliveries" and instead concentrate on promoting a peace settlement.
Earlier this month, Wagenknecht launched a petition on change.org that had gathered 650,000 people.
