Germans think their nation has done enough for Ukraine: WP
An opinion poll, conducted by the Washington Post in Germany, reveals popular opposition to their country's military intervention in Ukraine.
A Washington Post poll revealed Germans' deep cultural aversion to military intervention in Ukraine, and the newspaper considered that "Russia – in its attempt to use energy as a weapon – has reduced gas supplies to Europe. As a result, prices have soared to ten times their previous levels and supplies are simply running out."
"Not surprisingly, many look to Germany – the EU’s largest economy – as the test case for continued European commitment to Ukraine," it added.

The newspaper concluded from the polls that energy prices are not the main issue. It turns out, as other polls have found, that while the Germans support Ukraine's fight against the Russian military operation, they believe that "Germany has already done enough."
It also explained that there are "two factors -- their historical memory of German aggression in World War II and concern about the costs of hosting refugees -- matter more than energy prices in German public opinion about helping Ukraine."
According to a survey pool of 1,000 Germans - via the Internet - between September 14 and October 6, 2022, 91% of Germans said they had some sympathy for the Ukrainian people. However, the majority (54%) believe that their nation is either doing enough (37%) or too much (17%) to support Ukraine's military operations and its refugees.
