Germany 'working' to send Ukraine new Patriot system: Zelensky
Zelensky posted on social media that Germany was working on providing Ukraine with the Patriot system for the winter, expressing that he was "grateful" for Germany's support.
Germany is working on providing Kiev with an extra Patriot air defense system, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Thursday after visiting German Chancellor Olaf Scholz at a conference in Spain.
Zelensky posted on social media that Germany was working on providing Ukraine with the Patriot system for the winter, expressing that he was "grateful" for Germany's "support in defending our freedom and people."
Scholz also confirmed to reporters that Germany would give Zelensky "one of the most highly effective defense weapons."
"This is a very far-reaching protection, there are not so many of them available," Scholz explained. "We have already made such a delivery possible. That was already very difficult for us.
"If we do it again now, it will be a very far-reaching measure that will also serve Ukraine's security on a large scale."
In August, Germany delivered 2 US-made Patriot systems to Kiev, fulfilling a commitment it made to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky earlier this year, amid concerns that Berlin is dangerously increasing its involvement in the war with Russia.
The announcement was made as a growing number of Western military and political top officials are declaring that Ukraine's counteroffensive has failed to reach its objectives and is moving much slower than anticipated.
In July, former advisor to Pentagon chief and retired US Army Colonel Douglas Macgregor revealed in an interview that Zelensky is in a "desperate" state, while Russians on the other hand are comfortable with the current path of the conflict.
Macgregor also slammed France and the UK, major NATO members, for their increased interference in the war after they promised Kiev to supply long-range missiles that can be used to target Russia's territory.
"Giving this man [Zelenskyy] and his government such weapons" is an invitation to disaster, he said, calling on Western countries to distance themselves from the war before being dragged into a direct clash with Russia.
