Guterres: The international community must cooperate to avoid another possible Cold War.
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urged China and the US to hold dialogue and repair their “completely dysfunctional” relationship.
Guterres' words came in an interview with the Associated Press ahead of the annual UN General Assembly meeting with world leaders, which is attended by more than one hundred countries and continues to be held until next Monday.
Referring to China and the US, the Secretary-General pointed out that two rival geopolitical and military strategies would pose dangers and divide the world, therefore, the relationship between the two countries must be repaired soon.
He also stressed that the international community must cooperate to avoid another possible Cold War, that will be more dangerous and difficult than the first one.
It is worth mentioning that two years ago, Guterres warned world leaders of the risk of the world splitting into two camps, with rival internets, currencies, trades, financial rules, and geopolitical and military strategies.
