Harris Arrives in Paris to Smooth Tensions with France
Harris aims to restore confidence after tensions over the security pact and submarine deal.
US Vice President Kamala Harris arrived in Paris on a mission to repair relations with France following a crisis sparked by the cancellation of a submarine deal.
Harris will meet French President Emmanuel Macron and attend a peace forum with other world leaders during her four-day visit.
She will also attend a conference on Libya and take part in commemorations marking the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I.
"It is good to be in France and I am looking forward to many, many days of productive discussions reinforcing the strength of our relationship," Harris said.
Biden: the US had been clumsy in dealing with the issue
At a meeting with Macron last month, President Joe Biden attempted to make amends for the dispute, telling the French President that his administration had been "clumsy" in securing the submarine deal with Australia.
The AUKUS agreement is part of a new strategic alliance between the United States, Australia, and the United Kingdom.
