The Head of the Palestinian Prisoners Club (PPC), Qadura Fares, confirms to Al Mayadeen that Palestinian prisoners Raed Rayan and Khalil Awawdeh are both in 'critical condition' amid ongoing hunger strike in Israeli prisons.

The Head of the Palestinian Prisoners Club, Qadura Fares, told Al Mayadeen that Palestinian prisoners Raed Rayan and Khalil Awawdeh are incarcerated in deplorable conditions and subjected to abuse.

He further warned citing prison health staff that their lives are in real danger.

"The occupation's behavior is suspicious and dangerous towards them," he added.

Fares detailed that the PPC hoped for a response last Thursday after channels of communication were opened between the leaders of the Captive Movement and the Israeli prison authorities, alongside the Israeli intelligence, but that did not happen," referring to the Israeli claim that telephones were seized in Ofer Prison.

He added that Palestinian prisoners informed the Israeli prison administration that they would go on a hunger strike in solidarity with prisoners Awawdeh and Rayan.

Fares added that "when the Israeli administration deals with about 75 prisoners, it is not the same as dealing with two prisoners," stressing that such escalation will create tension and opens things up to all possibilities.

He stated that the two prisoners are in Ramle prison, noting that "prisoner Awawdeh has been transferred to the hospital several times due to low blood sugar level, which causes him to lose concentration," exposing that "the prisoner’s parents are prohibited from communicating with them."

The martyrdom of prisoners is a premeditated murder

On his account, the Secretary-General of the Islamic Jihad Movement in Palestine, Ziad Al-Nakhala, considered Thursday that the Israeli occupation's singling out of Palestinian prisoners, carrying out isolation and repression practices against them, as well as ignoring the hunger strike of prisoners Khalil Awawdeh and Raed Rayan, calls for the resistance and the Palestinian people to fulfill their duties and responsibilities to protect these prisoners.

In a statement, Al-Nakhala reminded the Israeli occupation that the possible martyrdom of one of the hunger-striking prisoners will be considered a premeditated murder, which requires the resistance to carry out its duties in accordance with previous obligations.

Earlier, Al-Nakhalah stressed that the Islamic Jihad movement in Palestine will not accept the continued humiliation of the Palestinian people, especially the prisoners.

Rayan, 27, from Al-Quds, continues his open hunger strike for the 108th day in a row, while Awawdeh, 40, is on his 133rd day of the strike.
