Lebanese MP Raed Berro, a member of Hezbollah’s parliamentary bloc Loyalty to the Resistance, stressed on Wednesday that the movement is firmly entrenched and could not be abolished, emphasizing reliance on the wisdom of the Lebanese Army and the steadfastness of the people and the resistance’s supporters.
Speaking to Al Mayadeen, Berro denied the existence of any direct or indirect communication between Hezbollah and Baabda Palace, adding that the Lebanese government had conceded its trump card, the resistance, during negotiations. He warned that such decisions could “indirectly lead to internal confrontation.”
'Disarming the resistance is a call for strife'
Berro criticized recent calls to restrict weapons in Lebanon, saying the proposal aimed to provoke internal conflict. He also voiced regret over comments made by Maronite Patriarch Bechara al-Rai regarding the issue.
He underlined that the upcoming parliamentary elections will reaffirm Hezbollah’s broad popular base and presence, insisting that the decision of the resistance “remains solely in its own hands” and that no party can outbid Hezbollah on this front.
Commenting on the recent visit of Ali Larijani, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Berro said it underscored the Islamic Republic’s commitment to standing by Lebanon and its people in the face of the Israeli occupation.
