ICJ rejects additional measures in Rafah genocide case
In its decision, the ICJ said it refused to add additional provisional measures because it deemed that those ordered on January 26 were already sufficient.
In response to South Africa's request for the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to use additional provisional measures in order to prevent a genocide in Rafah, the ICJ on Friday issued a decision stating that no extra measures will be taken, apart from those already ordered on January 26, 2024.
According to a statement issued by the Court, the ICJ refused to add additional provisional measures because it deemed that those ordered on January 26 were already sufficient.
"This perilous situation demands immediate and effective implementation of the provisional measures indicated by the Court in its Order of 26 January 2024, which are applicable throughout the Gaza Strip, including in Rafah, and does not demand the indication of additional provisional measures," the ICJ's decision reads.
This decision comes after South Africa filed an urgent request on February 13 for the ICJ to intervene and prevent a potential genocide in Rafah.

This decision is a gift for the genocidal state of Israel, which commits war crimes every day! And you are now a complicit in the murders that take place every day in Gaza. Shame on you @CIJ_ICJ

The Israeli regime has recently laid out a response to a proposed ceasefire agreement with the Palestinian resistance.
The deal reportedly involves a three-stage plan with requests for several concessions but does not include the complete withdrawal of Israeli troops.
It is alternatively known as the Paris Document as it was initially drafted by Qatari, Egyptian, Israeli, and US officials in Paris last month.
According to the latest figures, the current death toll in Gaza stands at 28,775 in addition to 68,552 injured.
