Inter-Parliamentary Union President boycotted over Israeli narrative
Duarte Pacheco is being boycotted for his blatantly biased position towards the Israeli occupation regarding its aggression on Gaza.
On Monday the Algerian parliamentary delegation walked out of a meeting during the opening of the session of the 147th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, held in Luanda, Angola, in protest against the union’s president, Duarte Pacheco.
Pachecho is being boycotted for his blatantly biased position towards the Israeli occupation regarding its aggression on Gaza and Palestinian territories.
The Palestinian, Kuwaiti, and Iranian delegations joined the Algerian delegation in leaving the hall in protest of the president.
After that, the Algerian parliamentary delegation returned to the meeting hall, to listen to the speech delivered by the President of the Republic of Angola, João Lourenço.
Furthermore, the Algerian Foreign Minister, Ahmed Attaf, discussed with his Syrian counterpart, Faisal Al-Miqdad, and his Iranian counterpart, Hossein AmirAbdollahian, the latest developments in the Zionist aggression against Palestinian civilians in the besieged Gaza Strip.
Algeria saw mass protests in support of occupied Palestine and the people of Gaza in the face of the ongoing Israeli occupation massacres for the eighteenth day in a row.
The Iranian parliamentary delegation, headed by Mojtaba Dhul-Nur, whose membership includes several Iranian officials, including Mehdi Agha Jafari, the non-resident Iranian ambassador to Angola and South Africa, and Islamic delegations, protested against this speech and left the meeting hall.
The Iranian delegation and these delegations returned to the meeting after the end of Pajco’s speech, expressing their strong protest to this official for his speech against the Palestinian people. T
Amid the savage and brutal Israeli aggression on Gaza, Algeria refrained from participating in the "Cairo Peace Summit," which is expected to focus on ways to de-escalate the situation in Gaza and the Palestinian territories.
Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune had received an invitation from his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to participate in the summit scheduled for Saturday, October 21, 2023, in Cairo to discuss developments in the Palestinian cause and the "peace process". However, according to Algerian media, Algiers decided not to attend this summit.
Similarly, Tunisia has also decided not to take part in the summit in Cairo, according to Tunisian radio station Mozaique.
Earlier, the Secretary-General of the People's Movement in Tunisia, Zouhair al-Maghzaoui, confirmed that the Tunisian Parliament will approve in the next few weeks a draft law criminalizing normalization with the Israeli occupation.
