Al Mayadeen's correspondent reported on Thursday that Israeli occupation forces arrested freed prisoner Sedki al-Maqt from his home in the occupied Syrian Golan.
Prisoner al-Maqt was born in the village of Majdal Shams, the largest village in the occupied Syrian Golan. He joined the ranks of the Syrian National Resistance during the February 1982 uprising in the occupied Golan.
He was first arrested in 1985 before occupation authorities released him in August 2012, after spending 27 years in detention centers.
In 2015, the occupation re-arrested him after raiding his family's home, tampering with and vandalizing its contents, and looting what was inside.
Subsequently, in 2017, the occupation authorities issued a 14-year prison sentence against al-Maqt after postponing his trial multiple times and preventing his family and relatives from attending many trial sessions, only to release him in 2020.
It is noteworthy that prisoner al-Maqt had previously refused his conditional release from occupation authorities, which stipulated his deportation from his hometown of Majdal Shams in the occupied Syrian Golan.
In mid-September, Farhan Haq, the deputy spokesperson for the UN Secretary-general confirmed that the Golan is occupied Syrian territory.
Haq stressed that the status of the Golan Heights has not changed, which is that it is occupied Syrian territory.
"Israel" has been occupying the Golan Heights since 1967 and refuses to recognize Syrian sovereignty over it, despite the United Nations' repeated assertion that it is part of Syrian territory and that Israeli actions in it have no legitimacy.
