The total number of detainees after October 7 has now risen to about 5,730, and is still rising.
The Commission of Detainees Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoners' Society (PPS) disclosed on Monday that the Israeli Occupation Forces launched yesterday night, and until this morning, a massive detention campaign in which at least 40 Palestinians from the West Bank were detained, some of whom are ex-detainees.
The Commission and the PPS detailed that the detention campaign was concentrated in the Beit Lahm Governate, with the remaining detentions carried out in Ramallah, Qalqilya, Nablus, al-Khalil, Jenin, al-Quds. Israeli occupation forces simultaneously carried out widespread raids and field investigations.
Acts of abuse, severe beatings, and threats against detainees and their families, in addition to widespread sabotage and destruction of Palestinians’ homes and the seizure of money and vehicles, have become daily occurrences.
The total number of detainees since October 7 has now risen to about 5,730, and this total includes those who were detained from homes, through military checkpoints, those who were forced to surrender themselves under pressure, and those who were held hostage.
It is noteworthy that occupation forces have detained at least 230 Palestinians since January 1. The data related to detention cases includes those who were kept in detention by the occupation, as well as those later released.
Detention, Aggression and Assassination
Earlier today, Al Mayadeen's sources reported that occupation forces stormed the cities of Ramallah and al-Bireh, in the center of the West Bank, where local media reported that the Israeli forces raided the neighborhoods of Batn al-Hawa and al-Tireh, and also stormed al-Irsal Street, in the center of Ramallah, with their military vehicles, and carried out several detentions.
Al Mayadeen's sources revealed that three young men were detained by the occupation in Ramallah: two doctors, Aysar al-Barghouthi and Khaled al-Kharouf, and nurse Mourid Dahdah.
The Commission of Detainees Affairs and the PPS had previously announced the occupation’s assassination of prisoner, Abdulrahman Bassem al-Bahsh, 23, from the Nablus Governorate in the West Bank, in the Israeli “Megiddo” prison.
The joint statement stated that with this assassination, which was carried out by the occupation's prison administration, “martyr Al-Bahsh will be the first martyr on the first day of the year 2024, and the seventh martyr in the occupation prisons after October 7, 2023.”
The Israeli campaigns of raids, detentions, and raids in the cities and camps of the West Bank have intensified since the seventh of last October, coinciding with the occupation’s continued aggression against the Gaza Strip, which has entered its 94th consecutive day.
