Iran, China reaffirm commitment to strategic partnership
During the meeting with China's vice premier, Iranian President Pezeshkian praised the historic ties between the two countries, stating that their cooperation has been "friendly and sincere since ancient times."
At a meeting in Tehran with Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Guoqing on Wednesday, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian reiterated Iran's commitment to implementing a comprehensive cooperation agreement with China aimed at strengthening bilateral relations.
During the meeting, Pezeshkian praised the historic ties between the two countries, stating that their cooperation has been "friendly and sincere since ancient times."
"In the recent meeting with Mr. Xi Jinping, we reached good understandings, and your trip to Tehran to follow up on these understandings is a testament to the Chinese government's determination to expand relations with Iran," Pezeshkian said. He also noted Iran's resolve to deepen ties with China and Russia as a counterbalance to US efforts to promote global hegemony and unilateralism.
Vice Premier Zhang Guoqing echoed Pezeshkian's sentiments, describing Iran as "a large and important country" with a "constructive and effective role" in international affairs. Zhang reaffirmed China's commitment to strengthening long-term strategic ties with Iran and expressed satisfaction with Iran's cooperation in fostering closer bilateral relations.
"Iran is a strategic and important partner for China, and we have structured our approach to relations with you based on expanding and strengthening long-term strategic ties," Zhang stated. He also commended Iran's collaboration with China in countering unilateralism both bilaterally and in international organizations.

A Strategic Partnership
China and Iran maintain strong ties due to shared strategic and economic interests. Both nations oppose US influence and see each other as key allies in pushing back against Western policies.
Iran's location makes it a vital partner in China's Belt and Road Initiative, linking Asia, the Middle East, and Europe. China is also Iran's largest trading partner and a major buyer of Iranian oil, helping Tehran bypass sanctions.
In 2021, the two countries signed a 25-year cooperation agreement to deepen their partnership in energy, infrastructure, and technology. They also collaborate militarily, with joint exercises and a focus on regional security.
China often supports Iran in international forums, advocating for reduced sanctions and Iran's inclusion in global groups like BRICS. These economic, political, and cultural exchanges have contributed to solidifying a partnership that continues to grow despite international pressure.
