Iran calls on US to refrain from provocative acts in region: Tehran
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson says the hosting of MKO terrorists cannot be justified in any shape.
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kanaani stressed that security is a concern shared by all Gulf nations, calling on the US administration to refrain from any provocative, non-constructive, and destabilizing measures in the region.
Commenting on reports about the United States intensifying its deployment of F-16 fighter jets in the strategic Strait of Hormuz, Kanaani pointed out that Washington has never played a peaceful and beneficial role in the region.
According to the Iranian diplomat, Iran carefully and precisely monitors any unlawful and destructive behavior affecting regional security and is alert to any provocative or unlawful activity, particularly near its borders, and will pay close attention to it.
During his weekly press conference, Kanaani confirmed that Iran summoned the Italian ambassador to the country over hosting Maryam Rajavi, the ringleader of the anti-Iran Mojahedin-e-Khalq Organization (MKO).
A couple of days ago, the Iranian Foreign Ministry announced that it summoned Italian Ambassador to Tehran Giuseppe Perrone to protest the Italian parliament’s decision to host Rajavi.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson underlined that the hosting of MKO terrorists cannot be justified in any shape and is a clear act of supporting terrorism, which is in conflict with the government's international responsibility in fighting terrorism.
According to Tehran, the MKO conducted numerous terrorist attacks against Iranian civilians and government officials since the Islamic Revolution in 1979 and is responsible for the deaths of approximately 12,000 Iranians out of the nearly 17,000 killed in terrorist attacks over the past four decades.
