Iranian Ambassador to Iraq: 4th Round of Talks with KSA Will Be in Baghdad
Iranian Ambassador to Iraq, Iraj Masjedi, stresses Iran's support for Iraq in its upcoming parliamentary elections and confirms that talks with Saudi Arabia are steadily moving forward.
Iran's Ambassador to Iraq, Iraj Masjedi, announced on Friday that his country backs the Iraqi government in the elections on October 10, noting that the 4th round of negotiations with Saudi Arabia will take place in Baghdad. The Ambassador also presented suggestions to resolve the water crisis with Iraq.
Masjedi declared in an interview for the Iraq News Agency (INA) that Iran will support the Iraqi people's choice, highlighting that the Islamic Republic of Iran will aid and stand beside the Iraqi officials to conduct the elections, now that the conditions to hold them have been met.
He also added that Iran is glad to see Iraq playing a successful role in the region.
Masjedi continued that the fourth round of negotiations with Saudi Arabia will take place in Baghdad, expressing hope that these talks advance constructively, whilst emphasizing that they are steadily moving forward, in hope of achieving aspired results.
As for the possibility of an Iran-US meeting, Masjedi said that the nuclear deal was between Iran and the P5+1 group, and the same goes for the talks leading up to the agreement. However, it was the US that withdrew from the deal, and they are the ones that need to get back to it.
The issue of Iranian-Iraqi water resources was also brought up, whereupon Masjedi clarified that over the past few years, Iran has had to contend with a drought and a lack of rainfall, which affected water levels, noting that Iran had fully cooperated with Iraq on the matter.
