Iranian FM: Determined to reach good deal, US turn to show readiness
Iran's FM says it is now the US' turn to show whether it is courageous enough to take the necessary decisions to reach a nuclear deal.
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian revealed Thursday that some of his counterparts tried to convey messages from the United States to Iran and vice versa over the past months, among whom was the Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein who carried a message from the US to Iran.
In an interview for the Iranian news agency IRNA, the Iranian Foreign Minister said the US side talks about goodwill but what matters most for Iran is translating this goodwill on the ground.
Amir-Abdollahian stressed that Tehran is determined to reach a good, strong, and sustainable deal and will spare no effort in this regard, adding that it is now Washington's turn to show whether it is courageous enough to take the necessary decisions.
He indicated that Iran has been negotiating to ensure the removal of sanctions in order for the country to benefit from the economic interests of the 2015 nuclear deal.
Some parts of agreements with Saudi Arabia implemented
Regarding negotiations with Saudi Arabia, Amir-Abdollahian indicated that both sides have finished the fifth round of talks in Baghdad, noting that only some parts of the agreements reached in the Iraqi capital have been implemented.
The top Iranian diplomat indicated that there is a proposal to start talks at a political and public level with Saudi Arabia in Baghdad, adding that Iran has generally accepted and agreed to this idea.
Whenever Saudi Arabia is ready to reopen its embassy in Iran and resume normal relations with the country, Tehran would welcome that, Amir-Abdollahian underlined, indicating that the talks between the two sides are underway to reach this point.
It is noteworthy that Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein announced on Tuesday that the next and sixth round of talks between Saudi Arabia and Iran will be carried out via intelligence services.
Regarding the war in Ukraine and alleged rumors about the sale of Iranian drones to Russia, the Iranian foreign minister said stressed that Tehran does not have a policy of arming one side against the other in the Ukraine war, pointing out that Iran is continuing its efforts to bring peace, stability, and calm to Ukraine.
Amir-Abdollahian noted that his country has defense cooperation with Russia, but does not accept any action that would exacerbate the war in Ukraine.
Iran not a place for military coups & colored revolutions
On Thursday, the Iranian Foreign Minister stressed during an interview for The New York Times that Iran is not a place for military coups or for colored revolutions and considered that the Iranian people are conscious, noting that there is a difference between protesting and provoking unrest and riots.
The top Iranian diplomat stressed that the Iranian authorities are committed to revealing the circumstances of Mahsa Amini's death, but will not allow the country's security to be affected by the incitement of foreign media and policies.
He considered that if the US is concerned about the Iranian people, then you should know that thousands of Iranian children died due to sanctions on medicines, pointing out that the US refused to send a vaccine to Iran during the Covid-19 epidemic and was pressuring other countries not to supply Iran with vaccines.
