Iranian security forces have captured a member of ISIS in the country’s southeastern provinces of Sistan and Baluchistan.
Provincial police chief Doostali Jalilian was quoted by Tasnim news agency as saying that the forces determined after “technical and intelligence measures” that an ISIS member was covertly living in a village in Zabol County.
“After the close monitoring of the person’s actions, his hiding place was finally identified and the ISIS member was arrested in a synergic and coordinated operation by the police and Intelligence Department,” Jalilian said.
The police chief of Sistan and Baluchistan reported that the primary investigation revealed that the suspect, who has citizenship of one of the neighboring countries, was spreading the ISIS ideology in the area with a “purposeful plan.”
This comes a week after the IRGC reported that a high-ranking ISIS leader was arrested when trying to enter Iran, terrorist's communications network was also detained.
Iran has recently been facing a surge of foreign agents commissioned to stir disruption in the country, as well as a surge in terrorists targeting civilians.
On October 26, an armed terrorist entered the Shah Cheragh shrine in Shiraz at approximately 5:45 pm local time (14:15 GMT), a little before evening prayers, and opened fire, killing 15 pilgrims, including women and children in cold blood, and leaving at least 40 others wounded. ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack. The attacker was shot during his rampage and his accomplices later caught.
