Iran calls for global denuclearization
In a related context, the Head of the Legal and International Department of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Reza Najafi, affirmed that the Islamic Republic of Iran strongly rejects the preservation, stockpiling, development, and proliferation of nuclear weapons at the regional and global levels, calling for global nuclear disarmament.
Najafi said in his speech on Tuesday, during the United Nations General Assembly session on the occasion of the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons, that achieving global nuclear disarmament and eliminating the threat of the use of these weapons is a legal, political, and moral responsibility of all governments, particularly nuclear powers.
Najafi stressed the importance of implementing the 1995 Middle East Resolution of the NPT Review Conference, considering that the Israeli nuclear weapon constitutes a threat to peace and security in this region and beyond, which prevents the Middle East from becoming nuclear-free.
