Iraq seeks Arab meeting at UNGA over Israeli aggression on Lebanon
The death toll from Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon has risen to 365, including at least 21 children and 39 women.
Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani called for an emergency meeting of Arab leaders on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly on Monday, as the Israeli aggression on Lebanon intensifies.
The Iraqi government "calls on and works to convene an urgent meeting of the leaders of Arab delegations... to review the repercussions of the Zionist (Israeli) aggression on our peaceful people in Lebanon and to work jointly to stop its criminal behavior," al-Sudani said in a statement.
Egypt's Foreign Ministry urged "international powers and the United Nations Security Council to intervene immediately" to put an end to "the dangerous Israeli escalation in Lebanon."
The death toll from Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon has risen to 365, including at least 21 children and 39 women, and 1,246 were injured, according to Health Minister Firass al-Abiad said on Monday.
An estimated 5,000 people have been injured since last Tuesday.
The Minister added that "thousands of families from the targeted areas have been displaced."
The Israeli regime has intensified its airstrikes since this morning, with an estimated 1,100 airstrikes carried out so far across southern and eastern Lebanon.
Moreover, an airstrike was also reported in the capital city of Beirut Tuesday evening.
Israeli forces have also urged residents of the Bekaa Valley in eastern Lebanon to evacuate their homes, as it declared plans to "broaden" the scope of its strikes.
Explosions near the ancient city of Baalbek in eastern Lebanon lit up the night with flashes of fire, sending plumes of smoke billowing into the sky.
Israeli attacks on Lebanon 'clear' effort for regional war: Erdogan
On Sunday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said "Israel's" latest attacks on Lebanon will lead to a regional war.
"The recent attacks against Lebanon and the recent statements made by Israel are a clear manifestation of the efforts to spread the war to the region," Erdogan said at a New York event hosted by the Turkish-American National Steering Committee (TASC).
The Turkish leader added that "Israel's" ongoing genocide in Gaza further threatens regional peace.
"Global institutions and organizations have taken no effective steps to end the oppression in Gaza or prevent Israel's massacre," he highlighted.
Erdogan emphasized that the international community is losing its "effectiveness and credibility," asserting that institutions responsible for ensuring peace and security are "clearly in a state of moral collapse."
"The massacre that has been going on in Gaza for 352 days has shown this once again," he said.
