Iraq: Car explosion rocks Basrah
A car explosion was reported near a restaurant across the patients' consultation center of the Basrah University Teaching Hospital, according to preliminary information.
The Security Media Cell announced that a motorcycle exploded at al-Samoud intersection in Basrah Governorate. According to the preliminary data of the Basrah Health Directorate, the explosion killed 4 citizens and wounded four others as a result of the burning of two cars near the explosion site.
The Cell said that forensic experts and specialized technical teams are still at the explosion site to determine its nature and how it happened, promising to provide further details in a statement after completing the investigations and technical reports.
Al Mayadeen correspondent earlier reported today Tuesday that a car exploded near a restaurant across the patients' consultation center of the #Basrah University Teaching Hospital, south of Iraq.
Our correspondent confirmed that at least 3 were killed and 7 were wounded so far, whereas the governor of Basrah spoke of 8 civilians who were killed and injured in the explosion.
Activists on social media circulated photos and videos of the explosion site and reported that several Iraqis fell victim. No official information is available yet.
