Iraqi-Iranian Committee to Investigate Soleimani, Al-Muhandis Assassination
The Iraqi-Iranian Committee formed to investigate the assassination of Soleimani and al-Muhandis has announced it has taken all possible judicial and legal measures to prosecute the perpetrators.
Iraqi sources reported that an Iranian judicial delegation arrived in Baghdad to investigate, along with the Iraqi judiciary, the assassination of Major General Qassem Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis.
The delegation’s visit came as Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein AmirAbdollahian had previously emphasized the need to investigate the case and punish the perpetrators.
As a result, an Iraqi-Iranian committee was established, and it announced that it has taken all possible judicial and legal measures to prosecute the perpetrators involved in the assassination of Soleimani and al-Muhandis.
It also said it will continue to strengthen bilateral cooperation to complete the ongoing judicial investigations between the two countries.
According to the Committee, the next round of meetings will be held next month in Tehran.
On January 3, 2020, the commander of the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolution's Guards Corps, Major General Qassem Soleimani, and the deputy commander of the Popular Mobilization Forces, Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, were martyred by a US missile strike near Baghdad International Airport.
During his visit to Baghdad in September, AmirAbdollahian affirmed that the US government is the main party responsible for Soleimani's assassination and stressed that it must be punished.
