The Palestinian Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs confirmed on Thursday that the Israeli occupation authorities are still withholding 11 bodies of martyrs from the Palestinian Captive Movement.

This comes after the Israeli occupation handed over the body of martyr Mohammad Maher Turkman, from Jenin Governorate, who died on October 14 last year, under restrictive conditions.

The Commission added that the occupation authorities handed over the body of martyr Turkman 10 months after it was seized, pointing out that the occupation imposed very difficult conditions, including preventing more than 25 people from attending the funeral and barring media coverage of any sort.

It added that Turkman's body was buried in the village Makar, in occupied Akka, the birthplace of his mother, as one of the conditions that the occupation set for handing over the body was that the burial be held in the occupied Palestinian territories in 1948.

According to the Commission, the martyrs whose bodies are still being held by the Israeli occupation authorities are Anis Doula, whose body has been held since 1980, Aziz Owaisat, whose body has been held since 2018, Faris Baroud, Nassar Taqatqa, and Bassam Al-Sayeh, whose bodies have been held since 2019, Saadi Al-Gharabli and Kamal Abu Waar whose bodies have been held since 2020, Sami Al-Amour, whose body has been held since 2021, and Daoud Al-Zubaidi and Nasser Abu Hmeid since 2022, as well as Sheikh Khader Adnan, whose body has been held since May 2, 2023.
